april 20-where did we leave off? ...
Hello ceramics students! I have been hard at work trying to come up with some great assignments for our remote instruction. I hope you find them enjoyable and a chance to use your creativity. It won't be like our normal class, but let's make the best of this situation. Each week, you will be given choices as to which assignment you want (or are able) to do. I know some of you have a household full of art supplies, but others do not. I know some of you have access to devices and the internet whenever you need it, but other do not. I think flexibility and ingenuity are skills that we all will be utilizing during this unprecedented time. I look forward to spending the end of the year with you and seeing what you create!
We left off with constructing our houses and finishing our face jugs. These are ready for pick up. See the home page for announcements on how/when to get your amazing artwork back!
For now, let's focus on one lesson a week. I will give you a few options. You get to choose which one sounds best to you and which you can most successfully complete depending on materials/internet access/etc.
Each lesson will be posted on Monday no later than 8am. We'll follow up on Wednesday with any clarifications or questions of your progress. Lessons will be due by 11:59 Sunday night.
*There will be no final exam for this class!

January 24: sgraffito vessel
Sgraffito means to scratch. Research sgraffito vessels and how the designs match the form. Look into:
-Black on red clay sgraffito from ancient Rome (see image)
-vessel shape/form
-contours
-line quality
-patterns
-marrying form and the sgraffito design (see image)
*Note: we will be using underglazes for this project with a transparent coat to make it glossy if desired.
